ICYMI: Author Life Month

During the month of February, I participated in a fun little daily challenge on Instagram and cross-posted on Facebook and Twitter. Author Life Month began with a list of daily themes. Being a new author, there were several that I couldn't really post anything for, but I had a ton of fun anyway.

You may have already seen all of these, but I wanted to go back and bring them all together in one post.

DAY 1: MY BOOKS

Long Road Home

My first novel and it hadn't even released at the time this posted.

DAY 2: MY AUTHOR PHOTO

Just a random selfie. I hate when other people take pictures of me, so this is the one I use until something better comes along.

DAY 3: MY LAST 5-STAR READ

Sibby Slicker by Samantha Garman

Absolutely adore this series. I've read the first two books and I'm impatiently waiting for the third, Mother Shucker, that releases in April.

Sibby is an incredible character. She's hilarious and unapologetically weird. I love her!

DAY 4: MY WIP

This is an unedited snippet from Supernova.

Supernova is Madalyn + Jaxson's story. If you've read Long Road Home, you know that they're the best friends of Hailee + Drake. Their story was begging to be told, so it's coming!

Supernova is book one in the Sterling Sisters series.

DAY 5: COMP COVERS

This should be covers that are comparable to mine, or inspired mine. I didn't look at other covers when designing mine, but both of these pictures were options. Something about the black and white photo I ended up choosing just spoke to me. Maybe these will be used for future covers.

DAY 6: FAN ART/EDITS

I don't have any fan art, so I shared a teaser for Long Road Home instead.

DAY 7: WRITING MUSIC

I listen to a bit of everything. Getting inspired by music is easy and some songs just jump out at me when I hear them. All of my books have a playlist that I add to and change throughout the writing process. This is from the playlist for Supernova. You can listen here.

DAY 8: AWESOME MOMENT

The first awesome moment in my writing journey was getting the first proof of Long Road Home. It's one thing to write a book, but to hold a physical copy of it in my hands just made it real to me.

My first though after opening that package was, "Holy shit! I really wrote a book."

DAY 9: CHALLENGE OVERCOME

I overcame the challenge of learning how to format a book. It's a serious pain in the ass. There are so many little things to remember and it's different for paperbacks and ebooks. I hate formatting. Hate it.

DAY 10: NON-AUTHOR PHOTO

One of the best parts of my life. Husband HATES having his picture taken. We've been together for almost 11 years and there are very few pictures of the two of us. I snapped this on our anniversary last year (September). I love teasing him and doing silly shit like this. Sums up our marriage pretty well. :)

DAY 11: A FAVE REVIEW

My favorite review was my first. I still don't have many reviews (so if you've read Long Road Home, please, please leave a review for me).

DAY 12: KILLED DARLINGS

Another theme that I couldn't post. I haven't killed anyone off in a book (yet) and I didn't really take anything out when writing. Say hi to the adorable panda instead!

DAY 13: FAVE BOOK IN GENRE

Bright Side by Kim Holden

This book is EVERYTHING. Seriously. It takes you through your full range of emotions and is definitely an ugly cry book, but it's incredible! I read so many good books, but no single book has ever stuck with me the way Bright Side has.

If you haven't read it, you should!

BLURB (from Amazon):

"Secrets. Everyone has one. Some are bigger than others. And when secrets are revealed, Some will heal you ... And some will end you. Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks. They both feel it. But they each have a reason to fight it. They each have a secret. And when secrets are revealed, Some will heal you … And some will end you."

DAY 14: FAVE OF MY BOOK COVERS

This is my only cover so far.

I won't lie though, my favorite is coming up for Supernova, but I'm not ready to show anyone just yet.

I love the simplicity of this cover.

Sometimes less is more.

DAY 15: SWAG

Cards, stickers, and bookmarks. For now.

Keychains will be happening soon.

I'm also looking into some other things, like magnets and lip balm.

DAY 16: WHERE I WRITE

Sometimes I write outside, or kicked back in the recliner in our living room, but most often - I write in bed.

We have a small house right now, but we're hopefully moving this summer and I can't wait to be able to set up a little writing cave for myself. I need it.

DAY 17: WHERE I RELAX

Outdoors.

I love nature. I love being outside when the weather is nice. I'm thrilled that spring is almost here because winter has been killing me. The winter blues are real.

DAY 18: RESEARCH

Every book has at least some.

I like to have accurate information when necessary.

DAY 19: MY CRITIQUE PARTNERS

The closest thing I have to a critique partner is a good friend of mine. She's a rock star and edited Long Road Home for me. She's also my Alpha. I have several Beta readers, but Tracy gets everything first. She was such a huge help and source of support and encouragement when I was writing Long Road Home. My whole Beta Team is incredible!

DAY 20: FAVE CHAPTER ENDING

My favorite ending is the ending.

This is the last little bit of Long Road Home.

DAY 21: MY MUSE

Bebe Rexha.

My muse for Madalyn in Supernova.

Mike Chabot.

My muse for Jaxson in Supernova.

DAY 22: A DEDICATION PAGE

The dedication page in Long Road Home.

I'm lucky to have an amazing, supportive husband. He puts up with all of my crazy.

DAY 23: BUCKET LIST ITEM

One of many things on my writing/author bucket list. One day. One day I'll see that little orange badge on one of my books.

DAY 24: BUCKET LIST ITEM DONE

Publishing my first novel.

I did it!

DAY 25: PIMP A PUB-SIB

I don't have any pub-sibs. I do it all myself at this point. Instead, I shared what I was reading at the time. I loved the Ember series by Emma Slate. 5-stars.

DAY 26: FAVE BOOK OUTSIDE GENRE

I can't choose just one Harry Potter book. I love the entire series and I've passed that love to my children. We love all things Harry Potter!

DAY 27: MY SIGNATURE

Simple.

And always with love.

DAY 28: FAVE EVENT OUTFIT/ACCESSORY

No events for me, yet.

Maybe in the future.

I have a serious addiction to knee-high socks. I'm almost always wearing them.

And there you have it!

This was really a lot of fun and I'm sure I'll be doing more things like this in the future. I know there's something similar going around for March, but I just saw it and I'd already be a week behind.
